SUSTAINABILITY

We take sustainability serious and fully commit ourselves to creating products that cause as little impact on the environment as possible.

The outdoor natural world is at the heart of Timbuktu, it’s something we love and care about. We want to make sure that this world is still around for generations to come and in order to do this it becomes our duty, our mission to hold the environment at an upmost importance.

OUR PACKAGING

We know that packaging has been a huge issue for the natural environment for many years, from the fateful plastic drink can rings to the everyday used plastic carrier bag. One thing that all harmful packaging has in common is single use and for us that is no use.

Timbuktu is committed to eradicating single use, non-recyclable plastic from its packaging. This sustainable packaging commitment covers everything from the swing tags to the mailbag that you receive your order in.

MAIL BAGS

Our mailbags come from sustainable sources right here in the U.K. They are made using unbleached kraft pulp from renewable FSC/PEFC compliant paper mills. They are both recyclable and compostable, therefore being biodegradable.

SWING TAGS

All of our swing tags are made using card from renewable sources that can be easily recycled. Instead of using plastic kimbles (the little plastic wire that connects swing tags to products) we aim to use good old-fashioned string, again being renewable and recyclable.

FACTORIES

Making sure that we create the best possible product, which is long lasting, fit for purpose and has as little environmental impact as possible: this is the starting inspiration behind all of our products.

The manufacturers we choose to work with have to share the same respect of the environment and its people. For us, this is where sustainability starts.

Our team of factories work hard in ensuring its people are cared for, making transparent the manufacturing supply chain through an independent audit by the ‘Fair Wear Foundation’. To name just a few, this includes the promotion of fair labour conditions, a fair living wage and fair hours of work for all employees.

These same factories also work hard in protecting the environment and reducing their carbon footprint. This starts with the energy they use; electricity that is powered by wind turbines. Then comes the water; 95% is harnessed from renewable sources. Did you know that it can take up to 20,000 litres of water to produce 1kg of cotton? This is why it is so important to use renewable sources. Waste water is also a large issue due to the dyeing process. The manufacturers we use have created a system in which to convert this waste water into clean water that can be recycled and used time and time again. They have even planted trees in order to become carbon neutral.

We take sustainability seriously at Timbuktu and are proud to work with manufacturers who feel the same.
